All of our Pediatricians are on staff at
Kaleida and Catholic Health System.
Children who need hospitalization will be
admitted to Women's and
Children's Hospital of Buffalo - a hospital specializing
in care for children. Tonawanda and Island Pediatricians also
attend newborn infants at Millard Fillmore Suburban and Sisters
Hospitals.
Our physicians will care for your child
- Generally, if our physicians feel that your child needs to stay
in the hospital, our staff will oversee all of the care for your
child in the hospital.
- One
of our physicians will be in every day (usually in the morning) to
see your child.
- There are many other doctors that you will see
during your stay in the hospital. Children’s Hospital is a “teaching” hospital for the SUNY-Buffalo
School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
For this reason, medical students and physicians in training
(interns and residents) will also see your child. Since
these doctors in training are in the hospital continuously, we work
closely with them and rely upon them to be our “eyes and ears”
when we are not in the hospital.
While these younger doctors may sometimes act as though they
are in charge, no care should be provided to your child without the
involvement of our physicians.
- At times, we may consult with other specialists to help
us in the care of your child. These
physicians will work with us to provide the best available medical
care to your child.
Other physicians may care for your child
There are certain situations in which other physicians may oversee
the medical care of your child in the hospital.
- Specialists - who are also caring for
your child may feel that your child needs to hospitalized for
specialty care that they are better able to provide (surgery,
chronic medical conditions, cancer care, etc.).
- Critical care - if your child needs to be in the ICU, care is best provided
by the continuously on staff doctors located in the ICU.
In both of these situations, please contact our office and let us
know that your child
is in the hospital. Our doctors will stop in and assist these other
physicians in caring for your child.
Please feel free to call our office at any time if you have any
concerns.
