Our Physicians

Dedicated to serving the children of Western New York, our highly qualified team of practitioners provide 24 hour care for newborns through adolescents to age 22. All of our physicians are Board Certified in Pediatrics and hold the title of Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the State University of NY at Buffalo - School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

 

Dr. Amy BraunAmy Braun
Dr. Braun attended SUNY at Buffalo where she graduated summa cum laude in Biology. She then attended SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences where she graduated cum laude. While in Medical school she received the Evan Calkins Primary Care Achievement Award. Dr. Braun completed her pediatric residency training at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. She also completed a year as Pediatric Chief Resident at WCHOB and clinical assistant instructor at SUNY at Buffalo. Dr. Braun is Pediatric Board certified.

Dr. Braun’s lives in Hamburg with her husband and two children.
John Dzik, MDJohn Dzik , MD
Dr. Dzik received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and completed his Pediatric Residency Program at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo. Dr. Dzik began working for Tonawanda Pediatrics in 1996. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the Buffalo Pediatric Society. Dr. Dzik resides in Buffalo with his wife, Dr. Darlene Durkin and children, Alyssa and Ryan.
Evelyn Hurvitz, MDEvelyn Hurvitz , MD
Dr. Hurvitz completed her undergraduate work at Cornell University, College of Arts and Sciences. After graduating magna cum laude, Dr. Hurvitz went on to study medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Hurvitz is Board Certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

In addition to her full-time Pediatric practice, Dr.Hurvitz is involved in teaching medical students and residents at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Hurvitz believes that as physicians, parents, community health advocates and human beings, we never stop learning. As the mother of hockey and soccer "stars" Dr. Hurvitz understands children and adolescents as well as the medicine of Pediatrics.

Michael Heimerl , MD
Dr. Heimerl completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at The Children's Hospital of Buffalo. He is Board Certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Heimerl joined Tonawanda Pediatrics since 1985 and is currently the senior physician of the practice. 

Dr. Heimerl has been involved in various medical leadership positions in WNY including being a past president of the Buffalo Pediatric Society, a former Associate Medical Director for Independent Health, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the IPA of WNY. He currently serving on the Medical Executive Committee of the medical staff of Kaleida Health System.

He spends as much of his free time as possible with his wife and two stepdaughters. His hobbies include outdoor activities especially long distance bike riding, as well as canoeing and hiking.

Justin Kanaley, MDJustin Kanaley, MD
Dr. Kanaley is the newest member of the Tonawanda Pediatrics provider team. Justin is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Canisius College, with a major in cellular and molecular biology. He attended SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.Dr. Kanaley completed his residency at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo (WCHOB). Dr. Kanaley is Pediatric Board eligible. 

In 2004, Justin received the Resident Teaching Award in Pediatrics from WCHOB. Dr. Kanaley et al. published Resolution of Discrepant HLA antibody Patterns in Potential Transplant Recipients in Human Immunology. Justin is a member of the Upstate NY Transplant Services Organ Advisory Committee.  He is a Bronze medal winner in golf at the U.S. Transplant games. He lives in the City of Buffalo with his wife and enjoys music, travel and antiques. Dr. Kanaley’s training and experience in providing high quality medical care to children and families makes him a welcome addition to our medical team. Justin will be seeing patients at the Robinson Road and Transit Road locations.

Michele Manka-Black, MD Michele Manka-Black , MD
Dr. Manka-Black completed her undergraduate work at the Ohio State University and received her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Manka-Black completed her residency training in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo. Following residency, she practiced pediatric and adolescent medicine in Batavia, NY before joining Tonawanda Pediatrics. Dr. Manka - Black is Board Certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Outside of her practice, she is busy being a Mom, devoting most of her time to family activities and gourmet cooking.
